Our very own local heathcare provider, UnityPoint, told club members what it does for women’s health.
- UnityPoint provides family planning, birthing, and hysterectomies. Robotics are used for some procedures, making recovery quicker.
- Preventive Screenings offered include mammograms, bone density scans, cervical screenings, stool-based tests, sigmoidoscopies, and colonoscopies.
- Birth Center offerings:
- Low intervention room, designed to offer comfort for a natural, unmedicated childbirth. The room features relaxing design, active labor tools, gentle monitoring, and comfort items like a murphy bed for family.
- Another initiative is “Spinning Babies,” which are techniques for positioning the baby in the optimal head-down position for birth.
- The hospital follows staffing guidelines for optimal care in the birth center for both mother and baby. Actual ratios vary, depending on the stage of delivery and the amount of care needed. Nurse to patient ratios can be anywhere from one nurse to one patient, up to one nurse to five women.
- UnityPoint offers a level 2 nursery. It may not be a NICU, babies who are sick may be cared for in this setting.
- In partnership with Blank Children’s Hospital, an MD/DO/ARNP can follow newborns in the well nursery
